Learn How to Identify, Work With, and Transform Shame

Researchers have cited shame as the dominant core emotion experienced by counseling clients. However, it can be hard to detect and talk about. Many practitioners don’t know how to deal with shame, so it is often avoided or overlooked. This can have profound negative consequences for the client’s progress in therapy.

Learn how to define shame and distinguish it from other emotions such as guilt and embarrassment.* Interactive learning will help you to identify shame: what does it look like from the outside; how does it feel on the inside; and, what are the most common relationship problems that arise from this painful emotion? We will look at practical steps for dealing with shame and apply them to ourselves and our relationships; thus getting a first-hand experience of how to work effectively with shame. We will look at multiple means and methods for promoting shame resilience within ourselves and with our clients. Case examples and practical applications will be discussed. A supportive, compassionate approach will be utilized to talk about, and deal directly with, what has been called, “the most painful of all emotions.” Walk away from this workshop armed with knowledge about shame; and empowered with methods and means for transforming shame in yourself and in your clients.
